(UPDATE) Charges expected in wheel incident on Highway 400

Innisfil | by Ian MacLennan
Toronto police say the driver of a car in which a wheel came off was an off-duty officer.

OPP say they expect to lay charges after a 29 year old Barrie woman was seriously injured when a wheel came off a car and smashed through the windshield of her car on Highway 400 north of Highway 89 on Wednesday morning.

Toronto police confirm the tire came off a vehicle being driven by a 56 year old off-duty officer.

Provincial police say the front tire came off a northbound vehicle and bounced over the highway and slammed into a southbound car.

The woman was airlifted to hospital but police say she will make a full recovery.

Anyone with relevant dashboard camera video is urged to contact police.
