Get ready for some good-hearted scares this Halloween at the Haunters Bay Drive Haunted House in Huntsville.
For the past 8 years, the project, which is located throughout the homes between 280 and 288 on Hunters Bay Drive has provided spooky chills for the entire community at Halloween.
Put on by Steven and Jennifer Spencer and their neighbours the MacKinnon’s, the setup includes zombies, ghouls and all sorts of Halloween characters.
Steve Spencer tells us the Town and the OPP are very supportive of it.
“It’s available any time for walking by, driving by – it’s lit up at night,” he says. “Then what will happen is on Friday our next-door neighbours, which is the MacKinnon’s, they run a Fear Shack which is a walkthrough and there will be physical distancing involved so they will only allow one family in at a time. And so at 7 pm on Friday there will be a preview run and then 2 pm on Saturday there will be one for the young kids, that way it’s not dark and scary. So then 7 pm is basically when we are considering full-on Halloween.”
The Fear Shack will include jump actors to really deliver the chills – it’s a huge church built out of pallets.
A candy shoot made up of a skull in a window with a tube coming out its mouth is where kids will get their candy while social distancing.
The whole thing has been put together since the end of September.
In past years, Steve says they average 200-300 people who visit.
It’s mostly built up from scrap wood and other elements – Steve has a background in sculpture and he’s built the bodies on display using plastic gauze and chicken wire.
“And everything is automated,” he adds. “I use motors and hook it up so everything moves.”
Prior to Halloween, you can visit the location after 6 pm.
They are also taking food donations this year for the Bay Food Crew.
