A Provincial Task Force has 10 recommendations on how to help Ontario’s struggling tourism economy.
The recommendations are a response to the negative impact the pandemic has had on Ontario’s $36 billion tourism industry.
They include giving Ontarians a reason to make new local memories and creating ‘Yours to Discover Days.’
“COVID-19 has had a devastating effect on Ontario’s tourism industry. Since the beginning of the pandemic, I have listened to and worked closely with industry experts from across our sectors to help assess the impacts of the pandemic and how best to support them,” says Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries. “As we look to the future, the recommendations and proposals presented in this report will play a vital role in helping our government develop a clear path forward to ensure the long-term recovery of Ontario’s tourism industry. I want to thank Tim Hudak and the members of the Tourism Economic Recovery Task Force for their time, diligence and passionate efforts.”
Other recommendations include providing increased stability and opportunities to tourism businesses and organizations, reducing red tape for tourism business, and showcasing the best of Ontario through packaged itineraries and trails.
