Be prepared for a combination of nasty weather today.
A Texas low is set to bring an extended period of freezing rain and blustery winds to the region with a high potential for power outages in southern Ontario.
Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the entire region.
It says freezing rain is possible beginning this morning, which is expected to change to rain this afternoon or this evening. Rainfall amounts of 10 to 20 mm are possible.
The weather agency says the partially frozen ground may have a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall and localized flooding in low-lying areas will be possible.
It adds the strong easterly winds in combination with any ice accretion may result in localized power outages.
As a result of the inclement weather, all vehicles to schools in Simcoe County are cancelled today, but the facilities remain open for student learning.
All school vehicles to schools in Muskoka, Haliburton and Kawartha Lakes for the Trillium Lakelands District School Board have also been cancelled today, along with all school vehicles to St. Dominic Catholic Secondary School, Monsignor Michael O’Leary and Saint Mary Catholic Elementary Schools have been cancelled.
