Organizers with the Coldest Night of the Year Gravenhurst walk are gearing up for their 5th annual event.
It’s happening on Saturday, February 25th.
Gravenhurst Against Poverty’s lead on Marketing and Sponsorship Bryan White tells us all money raised through the fundraising walk goes straight to GAP’s three pillars of service which are fighting food insecurity and transportation barriers, as well as strengthening wellness programming.
For those who don’t know, the CNOY event is a walk in the cold – either a 2 km or 5 km version – with both this year starting and ending at Lions Pavilion at Muskoka Wharf.
The 2k will go to Sawdust City and return while the 5k will head to the south end of town at Mr. Sub before returning.
At the end of this year’s event will be a large pizza party featuring area pizza makers who are teaming up for the cause. Domino’s, Pizza Hut, Boston Pizza and others will take part.
“Once your registered for the walk, you ask your friends, family and colleagues for donations,” says White.
Those who reach the $150 mark in fundraising or the 17-and-under $75 mark will earn an exclusive CNOY toque which are a grey-and-white fashionable looking toque this year.
To get involved, visit CNOY.org/Gravenhurst to sign up or become a sponsor. You can walk alone or with a team.
Last year’s effort raised about $180,000 says White, who adds that the 2022 Gravenhurst effort finished amongst the Top Ten locations across Canada.
This year’s goal is to raise $100,000 and so far, they’ve raised just over $60,000.
“Every dollar counts,” says White “It’s an important cause. We have neighbours in our community who don’t know where their next meal will be coming from and neighbours who are couch surfing and living in tents in these -30 and -40 nights.”
This year the Country 102 team will be set up at the Gravenhurst Wharf, so drop by and say hi at our tent while you’re there!
