This Earth Day, the Couchiching Conservancy and Sustainable Orillia invite the community to take part in an engaging and educational evening, hosted by Lakehead University’s Office of Community Engagement & Lifelong Learning. This special evening also marks the launch of the 2025 Passport to Nature program and serves as the first event in the series!
Date: Tuesday, April 22, 2025
Farm Lab Tour: 5 PM or 5:30 PM–limited spots available
Film Screening: 6:00 PM
Location: Lakehead University (Orillia Campus)
Cost: Free–donations are appreciated
The evening begins with a guided tour of Lakehead University’s Farm Lab, where students will share insights into their gardens and the importance of sustainable farming practices. Spots for the tour are limited—reserve yours when registering!
Following the tour, attendees will enjoy a screening of Eating Our Way to Extinction, a powerful documentary that explores the environmental consequences of industrial food systems—including deforestation, biodiversity loss, and climate change—and offers solutions for a more sustainable future.
The film will be introduced by Dr. Gerardo Reyes, professor in the Department of Sustainability Sciences at Lakehead University. After the screening, Dr. Reyes will lead a guided discussion, diving deeper into the film’s themes and inviting attendees to share insights and questions.
There will also be an interactive component during the event, so please bring a device like a phone or tablet to participate fully.
Prefer to skip the tour? No problem—the film screening begins at 6:00 PM and is open to all registered guests.
Attendees can also browse information booths featuring local conservation and sustainability initiatives.
Registration is required for this event. All attendees must register, and if you’d like to join the Farm Lab Tour, you can select that option within the same form.
