Hydro One says it has restored power to hundreds of thousands of customers who lost electricity in the weekend ice storm. But as of Thursday afternoon, there were still 186,000 waiting for restoration.
The hardest hit areas include the Orillia region, as well as Peterborough and Fenolen Falls.
To date, crews have come across 2000 broken poles.
In it’s latest update, Hydro One reports it has deployed just under 4000 workers to the restoration effort. That includes contractors and outside utility crews. Restoration in the hardest hit areas will continue in the coming days, with most customers back online by the weekend.
Customers that have damage to their home’s electrical equipment (ex. stack/pipe where the powerline from the road connects to their home), need to have a licensed electrician make the necessary repairs. Customers can learn more about the steps to take through the Electrical Safety Authority.
Here’s some video shot by OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of crews working in the Orillia area.
Thank you to every single person helping to restore power to the residents and business in central Ontario. I know there is still a lot of work to do, but we appreciate the hard work that is ongoing.
