The OPP Detective Inspector heading the investigation into Kilworthy resident Justin Evans’ death says police now believe it probably isn’t criminally suspicious.
An autopsy on Evans’ body, which was discovered May 19th has been conducted, but police are still waiting for more information before they say anything further.
“We now believe it’s probably not criminally suspicious,” Detective Inspector Matt Watson with the OPP’s Criminal Investigations Branch told 89.1 MAX FM/Country 102 Tuesday afternoon. “We still have to make a final determination with the coroner as to the manner of death.”
Evans was first reported missing on December 12th, 2020. His body was found by a hiker on May 19th in the woods adjacent to the Muskoka Mobile Home Park.
On Monday, OPP announced they had charged 70-year-old Kenneth McKinney of Gravenhurst with obstructing justice in the case.
Watson said police wouldn’t be commenting further on that development as the matter is now before the courts.
McKinney is set to appear in Bracebridge court on July 13th.
