The new math curriculum announced today for students in grades 1- 8 has a financial literacy focus.
It’s the first new math curriculum in 15 years
Half of Ontario’s students had not been meeting provincial math standards and the changes will see them start to learn coding and other skills soon
Premier Doug Ford says starting in Grade 4, students will begin to learn about saving and spending.
Budgeting will be a focus from Grades 5 up and financial planning learning will happen in Grade 6.
“It’s clear that a lot has changed since 2005 and our children’s education needs to change with it,” said Ford.
It all starts in September
Ford says it goes back to basics and equips student with the skills to move forward.
EQAO tests are also being cancelled from Grades 3-6 for the 2020/2021 school year.
