Toronto Police say they’ve identified the person whose DNA sample was found on the underwear of a murdered Queensville, Ontario girl in 1984.
They say it was former Toronto resident Calvin Hoover’s, who died in 2015.
The discovery was made via genetic genealogy and it’s not a 100 per cent DNA match, but a potential familial lineage which was followed up on.
Toronto Police Chief Jim Ramer says Hoover was an associate of then 9-year-old Christine Jessop’s family.
“If he were alive today, the Toronto Police Service would arrest Calvin Hoover for the murder of Christine Jessop,” said Ramer.
Christine Jessop was murdered and sexually assaulted after going missing October 23rd 1984.
Her neighbour at the time, Guy Paul Morin was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison, but the conviction was overturned in 1995 based on new DNA evidence.
Morin received $1.25 million from the Province and a public apology following his acquittal.
Police have released photos of Hoover (above) to the media and are seeking tips from anyone who remembers him around the time of the murder.
