A big blast startled residents in parts of Algonquin Highlands and surrounding areas today.
The Township’s Mayor Carol Moffat took to Facebook to address the concerns at 2 pm.
She says it happened in an aggregate pit on North Shore Road and that it was undertaken by a subcontractor.
The incident’s been reported to the Ministry of the Environment and will be investigated.
“I have asked for, and received a commitment to, better communication going forward,” writes the Mayor. “Thanks to our friends at Thomas’ and at Fowlers for their attention to this.”
